Nagano Skate is proud to expand, for a fifth year, our academy to Iqaluit. This edition promises to be particularly special with the participation of Charles Hamelin, four-time Olympic champion, and Jonah Hurtubise, coach and former high-level athlete. From February 6 to 14, these two enthusiasts will share their expertise and energy with the community.
A Mission in the Heart of Nunavut
Our commitment goes well beyond skating. Through this camp, we are committed to promoting an active and healthy lifestyle, while introducing or rediscovering the values of this sport. Charles and Jonah will also visit local schools to meet young people, discuss their journey and get them moving!
"Going to Iqaluit to lead this camp is truly special. Sharing my passion for this sport has always been at the center of my goals. It's not just about teaching how to skate—it's inspiring a way of healthy living, building team spirit and bringing people together Opportunities like this remind me why I fell in love with skating.”
- Charles Hamelin
In partnership with the Nunavut Speed Skating Association
This initiative is carried out in collaboration with Nunavut Speed Skating Association, which brings together the Inuit communities of Qikiqtaaluk (Baffin), Kivalliq, and Kitikmeot. Their mission to unite enthusiasts while promoting their unique culture aligns perfectly with our desire to showcase speed skating north of the 45th parallel.
For five years, this project has been particularly close to our hearts. Each year, it strengthens the links between our sport and communities rich in history and resilience. We are proud to help promote speed skating in remote regions, while creating unforgettable memories for all participants.
We look forward to meeting the athletes from Iqaluit and sharing this exceptional adventure with you. Follow us on social media for camp photos!
