Vivoactive 6 vs. Vivoactive 5

New Garmin products in spring 2025

In this new series of articles that will be published throughout spring 2025, we will talk about all the new features and improvements in our Garmin product range for 2025. We will even make some product comparisons to show you what’s best in 2025!

Vivoactive 6 vs. Vivoactive 5

The Vivoactive 6, officially launched on April 1st 2025 and NO, this is NOT an April Fools joke! The new Garmin update introduces several key features in the 2025 model, including new smart tracking capabilities that were not available in the Vivoactive 5 model.

The biggest standout remains its "AMOLED" touchscreen, which continues to be a premium feature for this price point in Garmin's lineup.

A major upgrade is Garmin’s Advanced Health and Wellness Tracking, particularly the enhanced Heart Rate Variability (HRV) notifications and the NEW Smart Wake Alarm system, now available in the Vivoactive 6. These premium features have previously only been found in Garmin's higher-end wearables.

Garmin has always prioritized GPS and battery life in its Vivoactive 5 model. These features will remain the same in the new Vivoactive 6. The Vivoactive 6 will offer new Running Dynamics to help track stride length, running power as well as PaceProTM. The most notable upgrade in the 2025 model is the enhanced Sport Profile capacity. The Vivoactive 5 had access to roughly 30+ Sport Profiles. The Vivoactive 6 now has access to 80+ Sport Profiles, more than the Vivoactive 5 and Venu 3 combined!

A notable new addition for 2025, particularly appealing to the Nagano Skate community, is the Vivoactive 6's support for HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) and on screen workout animations to help guide your workouts and complete your exercises properly. These features allow for continuous training sessions without the need to start and stop throughout your workout—a major convenience for speed skaters, runners, cyclists, and many other athletes.

The Vivoactive 6 also retains the Stress Tracking and Sleep Tracking features from the Vivoactive 5. In 2025, Garmin has improved these features to provide more intelligent notifications and detailed tracking recommendations as mentioned above with the new Smart Wake Alarm system for example.

All-in-all, the 2025 Vivoactive 6 is a great yet familiar upgrade to its predecessor, the Vivoactive 5!
